BMW 1-Series Hatchback – 'Enhanced but cramped'

The BMW 1-Series Hatchback range has recently been improved to include fuel-saving measures and more powerful engines.

With its low driving position, the car has a sporty feel, while finding a comfortable driving position is easy thanks to the adjustable steering, reviewer Parker's states.

The brand's iDrive system, which can be used to operate features such as ventilation, can be difficult to use at first, while the car's visibility, head and legroom could be better, the reviewer believes.

Space in the rear is not as generous as that offered by some competitors and the high sill makes it quite difficult to access, but luggage space can be enhanced by the rear seat backs, which split 60/40 and fold.

Base models are fitted with six airbags, an on-board computer, a CD player and run-flat tyres which warn the driver is a puncture is likely to occur.

With a six-engine line-up there is plenty of choice for car buyers seeking different things from their vehicle, but all petrol models are described by the reviewer as "swift and refined".

In addition, the car's handling is well-balanced, with the model tackling corners easily and offering responsive steering.

With a top rating in Euro NCAP safety tests, the car also has a range of features such as dynamic stability control to help keep the driver and passengers safe.

BMW's 1-Series Hatchback range is available from £16,022 in car insurance groups ten to 17.
