Chevrolet Kalos - 'An ideal family car'

Chevrolet's Kalos is an "ideal small car for families", according to a motoring expert.

Parker's reviewer likes the driving position and layout of the controls, but notes that the interior finish is not as good as in some of its rivals.

The Kalos also scores well for practicality, with a 220-litre boot and the ability to expand the load space to 980 litres by folding the rear seats down.

However, its engines are less impressive, as the 1.2-litre struggles on the motorway and the 1.4 "could do with a bit more zip".

Auto Express' assessor is also unhappy with the "lacklustre" engines, but notes that the range of equipment that comes as standard, including ABS, power steering and central locking, and the low cost of servicing make the Kalos a tempting buy at £7,295 to £10,465.

Despite the price, Auto Express' reviewer does not agree that the Kalos is the ideal family car and recommends that buyers consider the Fiat Panda and Kia Picanto before making a final decision.

The entry level Kalos 1.2 S is in motor insurance group three, while the top of the range 1.4 Sport is in group six.

Motorists could save an average of £68.92 on their car insurance with Kwik-Fit Insurance, according to a study conducted last year.
