Citroen C6 Saloon – 'All-round impresser'

The Citroen C6 Saloon is a luxurious model which offers good design but will need to work hard to compete with premier vehicles in its market segment, it has been claimed.

According to Parker's, the car creates the ambience of luxury with ease, coupling the pleasant environment with good visibility and excellent comfort which cannot be matched by other models for the price.

The suspension is effective at absorbing bumps and the car contains noise well, while drivers looking for a more exhilarating ride can switch to the sport setting.

Steering is mainly light and simple; however, it can gain weight as the speed increases. The brakes are described as excellent but require skilful handling to avoid lurching.

Two six-valve engines are offered, both of which come with six-speed automatic transmission. The 3.0-litre petrol model is slightly surpassed by the 2.7-litre diesel in being beaten to 62 mph by half a second.

Both models are steady at speed while offering a safe ride for occupants, achieving four stars for pedestrian protection.

Nine airbags come as standard and high spec models are fitted with the firm's lane departure warning which causes the seats to vibrate if a driver becomes drowsy.

Citroen's C6 Saloon is available from £28,315 in car insurance groups 15 to 17.
