Mazda 2 - 'Durable but noisy runner'

The Mazda 2 is a versatile and durable model which can be noisy when revved hard and would benefit from enhanced comfort, it has been claimed.

Reviewer Parker's states that while the driving position is high, offering good visibility, and the dashboard is attractively designed, the car's engine can sound coarse when pushed and the model is not always as inviting as those offered by competitors.

The car comes with driver and passenger airbags, deadlocks, an alarm, radio, remote central locking and body-coloured bumpers as standard, while higher spec options boast additional features such as electric front windows and audio speakers.

Base 1.25-litre and 1.4-litre engines are nippy, but the 1.6-litre model is faster, the reviewer suggests, with the 1.4-litre diesel being the best all-round performer, especially in terms of sound and economy.

Parking in town is easy thanks to the car's light steering and the firm suspension makes the vehicle more fun to drive than those offered by some competitors.

The car picked up a four-star score in Euro NCAP safety tests which is impressive for a vehicle its size, the reviewer states.

Mazda's 2 is available from £8,730 in car insurance groups two to six.
