Summer mistakes 'could invalidate home insurance claims'Householders are being warned not to invalidate their home insurance claims this summer through simple mistakes.
According to comparison site Confused.com, summer is a prime time for Britons to forget to close windows or stow away garden tools and furniture.
However, the portal is warning householders that even small blunders could have a bearing upon their home insurance.
"All too often the warm weather causes people to inadvertently invalidate their insurance due to simple slip-ups, such as leaving their homes open to opportunist burglars and thieves," said the website's managing director Debra Williams.
She advised householders to inform their home insurance provider when having builders round to renovate a property and remember to lock up the house to avoid invalidating a claim.
It may also be useful to read the policy booklet to become familiar with ways of avoiding errors, she suggested.
Householders were recently urged not to leave packaging outside their homes from expensive items which may attract thieves.
Home insurance customers are covered for accidental damage to their TV, home computer and stereo with a policy with Kwik-Fit Insurance.
