Car insurance savings to pay parking costsCar insurance customers may be grateful for their low premiums as a study has found they might need the change to pay rising parking costs.
According to a survey from car insurance provider Direct Line, the cost of parking has increased by approximately one-quarter over the past six years.
"Parking is a bone of contention for most drivers in the UK," said Emma Hoyler, spokesperson for the car insurance provider.
She advised motorists driving to a busy place to look into park-and-ride schemes or inexpensive car parks in advance to save "serious money".
The car insurance firm states that it has observed an increase in parking costs across the country of an average 25 per cent, with Londoners paying the most for a parking place.
High parking costs are forcing drivers to park illegally, with 22 per cent of motorists admitting to breaking the law, risking a parking fine or damage to their vehicle – which could result in a car insurance claim.
Motor insurance customers flying away on holiday in the near future may want to avoid Stansted Airport as the car park has been found to be more expensive than about 300 others in the south of the country.
Three in four motor insurance customers could save on their cover with Kwik-Fit Insurance, according to research conducted last year.
