Car theft motor insurance claims 'highest in Hull'Drivers in Hull are the most likely to claim for car theft on their motor insurance, a study has shown.
Research for Endsleigh Insurance identified Hull as being the car theft capital, with motor insurance claims reaching 126 per cent higher than the national average.
Bradford and Leeds came second and third respectively, while the areas least likely to claim for theft were found to be Norwich, Solihull and Swindon.
Overall, car theft was seen to have fallen by 31 per cent over the past three years.
Tim Larden, Endsleigh's spokesperson, said: "The overall national picture on car theft is good news for drivers and there is no doubt that improved car security has significantly contributed to this drop in theft.
"However there are still simple precautions that individuals can take to avoid becoming the victim of car theft."
He advised drivers to preserve their motor insurance premiums by making sure windows were closed, items were hidden from view and easy-to-steal equipment was removed upon leaving the vehicle.
Recently, Met Police commissioner Sir Ian Blair told a Police Authority public meeting that vehicle theft victims should not have to pay to have their cars towed, the East London Advertiser reports.
According to independent research, four out of five people could make a saving on their motor insurance with Kwik-Fit Insurance.
