Motorists urged to select the right car insurance

Many UK motorists are paying above average fees for their car insurance, new research from Insurancewide.com has claimed.

According to the UK car insurance comparison tool, many drivers could pay less and be more protected through a fully comprehensive policy rather than paying for third party cover.

Figures showed that drivers aged over 35 with cars worth less than £2,500 are paying around £200 more when on third party cover, compared to a fully comprehensive policy on their motor insurance.

Commenting, insurancewide.com chief executive James Harrison said "doing your homework could save you hundreds of pounds".

For motorists with several claims and convictions, a fully comprehensive policy would still be of benefit since a third party would charge "an arm and a leg" for car insurance anyway.

A survey by uSwitch.com in March claimed that more than 250,000 car-owners in the UK are looking for competitive insurance policies with some 72 per cent of people choosing their car insurance policy "based purely on price".

Three in four motor insurance customers could save on their cover with Kwik-Fit Insurance, according to research conducted last year.
