Racers could risk a car insurance claim

Drivers who may be risking a car insurance claim by racing each other through the streets of East Lancashire are being urged to slow their speed.

Police in the area told the Lancashire Telegraph that they are trying to reduce the number of incidents involving young motorists racing one another.

"The safety of both road users and residents is a key priority for the police and we continue to work closely with organisations such as the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety to reduce the number of death and injuries on our roads," said Sergeant Mick Young, from Lancashire Police.

According to the officer, younger drivers are especially vulnerable in such situations because of their inexperience on the roads.

Education is necessary to improve young drivers' awareness, he added. This could also help unseasoned motorists avoid car insurance claims by increasing their skills on the road.

In related news, a Wigan resident is calling for traffic calming measures to be installed outside his house where she fears the road is becoming a racing track.
