American servicewomen may be risking their women's car insurance premiums

Some female American drivers may be risking their women's car insurance premiums by speeding along British roads.

According to the Cambridge Evening News, more than 50 US servicemen and women serving in Suffolk recently appeared in court in a single day to face speeding charges.

Everyone present was given points on their licence and a £60 fine each, while the conviction may also impact upon women's car insurance premiums.

But John Gentle, chairman of Lakenheath Parish Council, said: "It's always a problem at this time of year when there's a change-over of personnel at the base and new drivers come over from America."

He added that newcomers were supposed to attend tuition for a period of time.

Meanwhile, Captain Alysia Harvey, spokeswoman for the base, said that her charges has attended training courses and answered questions about the Highway Code.

Figures from the Liberal Democrats recently highlighted that women drivers are also now drinking more before getting behind the wheel than they did more than ten years ago.

Kwik-Fit Insurance provides women with average savings of £74.15 on their car insurance according to independent research in June 2007.
