Lone women drivers warned of risks

Police are warning lone women drivers to be vigilant when travelling alone.

The warnings come after three incidents in Birmingham within in the last month has seen small gangs target female motorists, assaulting and forcing them to drive to cash machines to withdraw money before seizing the vehicle.

With property stolen from a car every 13 seconds in England and Wales most car insurance providers now offer security features, which could help protect your car from crime.

Some motor insurance providers can offer electronic trackers that help the police track a stolen car.

Commenting on the events in Birmingham, Thornhill road police detective inspector Bob Bradford advised people to "lock their doors when driving" and lone women to be "mindful of personal security at all times".

With the price of car insurance differing upon where you live and the according crime rates taken into consideration, uSwitch.com advises drivers to make sure they get the cover they need given that third party cover is of "no use in the event of your car being stolen".
