More women drivers guilty of drink-driving

The second week of an anti-drink-driving campaign has netted more female drivers who are putting their lives and their women's car insurance premiums at risk.

Strathclyde Police has caught 109 drivers breaking the law in the second week of this year's campaign, 99 of whom were men.

Of those caught, 101 drivers were found to be over the blood alcohol limit or refused to take a test, the BBC reports

The remaining eight were found to be unfit to drive because of drink or drugs.

Superintendent Pat Docherty, head of road policing, told the news source: "Some of those arrested have caused injury and deprived others of their only means of transport."

Women motorists who drink and drive may not only be endangering their women's car insurance, but also their livelihoods, as some will require a driving licence as part of their employment, the officer added.

The total number of offenders caught since the campaign began this year currently stands at 222.

Research by women's car insurance provider Diamond recently revealed that 73 per cent of female motorists say they would not drink any alcohol if they knew they would be driving a car afterwards.

Kwik-Fit Insurance was voted the cheapest women's car insurance provider in the UK by independent research.
