'More women driving under the influence'More female drivers may be risking their women's car insurance premiums by getting behind the wheel when under the influence of alcohol, findings have shown.
Statistics from the Liberal Democrats highlight that drink driving convictions among females rose by 54 per cent between 1995 and 2004, meaning increasing numbers of motorists could be chancing a claim on their women's car insurance.
Responding to the results, the Liberal Democrats' transport spokesman Alistair Carmichael said: "Instead of focusing drink driving campaigns only on men, women also need to be targeted."
In 1995, almost 6,800 females were convicted of drink driving, with the number rocketing to 10,765 in 2004.
Meanwhile, the number of men convicted for the same offence was found to have decreased slightly over the same period.
Recent findings by the British Market Research Bureau show that more than 88 per cent of female drivers think that they are more likely to have an accident if they consume two alcoholic drinks.
Women could save up to £210.61 on their car insurance premium with Kwik-Fit Insurance according to independent research in June 2007.
