Women drivers 'could get free tyre checks'

Women's car insurance customers may be interested to know that next month could see them save money by being eligible for a free tyre check.

October will mark the first nationwide tyre safety month led by organisation TyreSafe – formerly the Tyre Industry Council.

Having already gained support from various tyre retailers, the campaign will aim to highlight the role played by tyres in relation to road safety.

Among the topics covered will be the issue of under-inflation, which can impact upon driving and could result in a women's car insurance claim in the event of an accident.

Inflation can also have an effect upon fuel consumption and the amount of CO2 a car emits.

The group is calling upon motoring firms to offer free tyre pressure checks during the month, which may help drivers avoid an accident – and potentially a women's car insurance claim.

In the past the organisation has discovered that almost 25 per cent of small vehicles such as cars and vans on UK roads have at least one badly worn or illegal tyre.

Women could save up to £210.61 on their car insurance premium with Kwik-Fit Insurance according to independent research in June 2007.
