One lucky five year old from Motherwell got the opportunity to don his Gretna FC strip and score a very special treat last Saturday.
Kerr Anderson, age five, a fan of Gretna FC since dad James’ workplace Kwik-Fit Insurance became a lead sponsor of the SPL team, lead the players onto the field before the match against Inverness Caledonian Thistle as the teams official mascot.
The 1067strong crowd of supporters cheered on young Kerr as he took his first steps onto a premiership park, but dad James Anderson, who is head of the outbound and web department at the Uddingston-based insurance intermediary certainly doesn’t think its his last;
“Kerr is still very young but already has a keen interest in football and has shown a lot of talent on the pitch. I am sure he will develop his skills as he gets older and you never know - he could be running on the field as a player before we know it!”
The young Gretna fan also enjoyed the Halloween Fun Day prior to the game and took part in the activities which included ‘beat the ghoulie’, apple bobbing, bouncy castle and five-side football. Dad – James added: “We are all big football fans at home so when the opportunity came up for Kerr to be official mascot on Saturday I put him forward straight away - when we told him the good news he was delighted! He was very excited before the match but the Gretna team were great with him and he was thrilled to meet Rocky the Rooster - he left more of a Gretna fan than ever!
“It’s been a great experience for Kerr and one he won’t forget for a long time. I would like to thank Kwik-Fit Insurance and Gretna FC for giving Kerr this opportunity.”
Paul Murrary , team captain for Gretna FC also said: “Kerr was brilliant and really spurred us on prior to the match – having mascots like this is an old tradition and one that should continue – despite our loss, Kerr was a great help to us Kerr was a great help to us – we hope he enjoyed the experience.”
All of the Gretna players signed Kerr’s strip before he left to leave a lasting memory of his day as the Gretna Mascot.
